Teams Links Not Opening

We've encountered an issue with URLs to sites and files in the new Teams.

We have an Excel file containing links to other files in Teams file directories.

When we open a link, the browser opens, but instead of the file's web view, we get an error.

This issue only affects new Teams users, not classic Teams users.

To replicate the issue, create an Excel file in Teams, open it, add a URL to a cell, and try to open the URL.

This error occurs when trying to open a URL to another file or website (e.g., www.google.com).

When opening links, we see https://eur04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/GetUrlReputation in the address bar.

Our current workaround is to open the Excel file in the desktop app, where links open without issues.

Here's our Teams version info:

Versie

You have Microsoft Teams version 24137.2216.2931.2440.

You have the latest version, last checked on 24/6/2024.

The client version is 49/24051622223.

This issue started appearing last week; is there a known issue in one of the latest updates?

Hey there, I’ve read through your post about the issue with URLs to sites and files in the new Teams not opening properly. Here’s what I understand:

  • You have an Excel file in Teams containing links to other files in Teams file directories.
  • When you open a link, the browser opens, but instead of the file’s web view, you get an error.
  • This issue affects new Teams users but not classic Teams users.
  • You’ve defined the steps to replicate the issue.

Let’s tackle this:

  1. Check the URL Reputation Service: When you open links, you see https://eur04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/GetUrlReputation in the address bar. This indicates that the URL Reputation Service is involved. This is a security service that helps protect Teams from malicious links. Ensure this service is configured correctly, as it could be causing the issue.

  2. Check Your Teams Settings: Sometimes, an incorrect setting in Teams can cause issues like this. Check your Teams settings, especially those related to safety and security, and ensure they are correctly configured.

  3. Reach Out to Microsoft Support: As you’ve mentioned, the issue started last week, so it could be related to a recent update. Reach out to Microsoft Support and ask if there are any known issues in the latest updates. If not, they might be able to provide a solution or an estimated fix date.

  4. Test in a Different Environment: To isolate the issue further, test this in a different Teams environment, if possible, to see if the issue is consistent across environments.

  5. Check for Browser Issues: Sometimes, a browser issue can affect how Teams behaves. Try accessing the links in a different browser to see if the issue persists. If it doesn’t, that could indicate a browser-related problem.

In the meantime, your current workaround of using the desktop app is a good solution until you find a more permanent fix.

Let me know if any of these steps help resolve the issue, or if you need further assistance.
