Stuck: Unable to Reset Password After Prompt

Every time I open my email, I get a notification saying...

Credentials needed..

I've tried resetting, but it just loops back to the same issue.

Hey there, it sounds super frustrating to get stuck in that password loop. Here’s what you can try to resolve the issue:

First, make sure you’re using the correct password. Double-check your password manager or wherever you store your passwords to ensure you’re entering the right one. If you’re certain you have the correct password, let’s dig deeper.

  1. Clear Microsoft 365 credentials from the Windows Credential Manager:

    • Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
    • Type rundll32.exe keymgr.dll,KRShowKeyMgr and hit Enter.
    • In the Credential Manager, look for any Microsoft 365 or Office-related credentials.
    • Remove all the related credentials by clicking Remove.
  2. Disable and re-enable the Microsoft 365 add-in:

    • Open your email client (Outlook, for example).
    • Go to File > Manage Add-ins.
    • Uncheck the box next to the Microsoft 365 or Office add-in.
    • Click OK.
    • Wait a few seconds and then re-enable the add-in by checking the box again.
  3. Check for any stuck processes:

    • Press the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys to open Task Manager.
    • In the Processes tab, look for any Microsoft 365 or Office-related processes.
    • Right-click and End Task on any stuck processes you find.
  4. Try resetting your Microsoft 365 password:

    • Go to the Microsoft account sign-in page (account.microsoft.com).
    • Sign in with your email and current password.
    • Click on Security > Password security.
    • Click the Change password button and follow the prompts.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, your last resort might be to reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office. Make sure to back up any important files before doing so.

Let me know if any of these steps help you break the loop.
