Rules-Forwarded Emails Not Showing Up in Sent Items Folder

Why don't emails forwarded by rules show up in the Sent Items folder?

Outlook rules can be super helpful in automating tasks, but sometimes they can get a little finicky. Here’s the deal with forwarded emails not showing up in your Sent Items folder:

When you set up a rule to forward emails, Outlook technically uses the “Forward” feature rather than the “Send” feature. This means that the emails are dispatched directly from the server, bypassing your local outlook client.

As a result, these forwarded emails don’t get stored in your Sent Items folder since they didn’t go through the usual “send” process.

Now, if you really need to keep track of these forwarded emails in your Sent Items, there’s a workaround. You can modify the rule to achieve this:

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Open Outlook and navigate to File.

  2. Manage Rules & Alerts.

  3. Edit the specific rule that’s doing the forwarding.

  4. Uncheck the box next to “Do not save copies of forwarded messages” in the “Action” section.

  5. Save the rule.

By doing this, you’re telling Outlook to save a copy of the forwarded emails in your Sent Items folder. Please note that this might lead to some duplication if you’re also saving a copy of the original emails in another folder.
