Receiving frequent single-use codes, account shows incorrect login identity

I'm receiving a large number of single-use code emails from Microsoft daily, claiming I'm logged in with a different username.

Sounds like a real annoyance here There are a few things you can do to get to the bottom of this and put a stop to those pesky emails.

First things first, let’s get your account sorted out. Make sure you’re using the correct login credentials. Double-check your username and password to ensure they’re correct. If you’re using password managers, double-check there as well.

Now, about those single-use code emails. It’s possible someone (or something) is attempting to access your account. Here are some steps to help you secure your account:

  1. Change your password: As a precaution, update your password to a new, strong one. This will help prevent any unauthorized access.
  2. Check your account activity: Log in to your Outlook account and check the “Account Activity” page. This should give you an idea of where these login attempts are coming from.
  3. Update your security settings: Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) if you haven’t already. This adds an extra layer of security to your account.
  4. Review your connected devices: Remove any devices you no longer use or recognize from your account settings.

Additionally, check your account for suspicious forwarding rules. Sometimes, hackers set up these rules to redirect emails (including security emails like the single-use codes). You can do this by:

  1. Going to the settings (gear icon) in your Outlook account.
  2. Select “View all Outlook settings”.
  3. Go to “Mail” > “Forwarding”.
  4. Remove any suspicious or unknown forwarding rules.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be worth reaching out to Microsoft Support to see if they can help you further diagnose the problem.

Let us know if this helps, and if not, what other details you can provide so we can help you troubleshoot further.
