Emails stuck in Draft and Outbox folders in new Outlook

When I try to send an email, it gets stuck in the outbox folder and won't send. This is a major issue for our business, as we can receive emails but not send them. The new Outlook app is not functioning properly. Despite trying various solutions, including re-adding accounts and running the repair tool, the problem persists. Is there a fix available for this issue?

I’ve seen this issue before. It sounds like there’s no single fix for emails getting stuck in the Outbox, but there are several things you can try to solve the problem. Here’s a list of potential solutions:

  1. Check for large attachments: If the email you’re trying to send contains a big attachment, take it out. Sometimes attachments can cause emails to stick.
  2. Verify you’re not in offline mode: Go to Send/Receive > Work Offline and make sure you’re not in offline mode. This can prevent emails from sending.

Now, if those basic checks don’t help, here are some more detailed steps to try:

Resetting Outlook Settings and Local Data

  1. Try deleting the OST file: Go to the folder where your Outlook data files are saved. Rename your current OST file by adding “_old” to the end. Then, close and reopen Outlook, which should recreate the data file.
  2. Reset Outlook accounts: Go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings > Change > More Settings > Advanced. Uncheck “Download shared folders.” This might resolve the issue.

Restarting and Troubleshooting

  1. Restart Outlook and PC: Sometimes a simple restart can solve the problem.
  2. Flush DNS and reset Winsock: Run the command prompt as an administrator, type “netsh winsock reset” and “ipconfig /flushdns,” and then restart your PC. This can clear up any underlying communication issues.

Moving Messages to Drafts and Sending Again

  1. Drag the stuck message to Drafts: Move the stuck email from the Outbox to the Drafts folder. Open it and click Send again. For some reason, this method often works.

Disabling Add-ins and Viewers

  1. Disable any plugins or add-ins: If you have things like Business Contact Manager, Social Connector add-in, Xobni, or iTunes Outlook Addin, try disabling them. Sometimes these can interfere with Outlook’s normal behavior.

Local Data File Management

  1. Create a new .pst file: If none of the above works, try creating a new Outlook data file (.pst file), set it as default, and then remove the stuck email from there. This involves some steps like going to File > Account Settings > Account Settings > Data Files > Add and naming your new .pst file. You can find the full details in this guide.

Give these a shot and see if they help resolve the issue. If the problem persists, I’d love to know what you’ve tried so far, so we can brainstorm further solutions. Good luck
