Disable CTRL+ALT+DEL Login Screen in Windows

Could we see the removal or option to disable this feature in a future Windows update, ideally by Windows 12?

If you want to disable the CTRL+ALT+DEL feature on a Windows 11 kiosk, you can do so by enabling the “Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL” policy. This will prevent users from accessing the lock screen when they press CTRL+ALT+DEL.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open the Local Security Policy Editor:
Start by opening the Local Security Policy Editor. You can do this by searching for “secpol.msc” in the search bar.

  2. Expand Local Policies and Security Options:
In the Local Security Policy Editor, expand Local Policies and then select Security Options.

  3. Enable the Policy:
Double-click on the “Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL” policy and select Enabled.

  4. Save Changes:
Click OK to save your changes.

Alternative Method

  1. Open netplwiz:
Alternatively, you can also open “netplwiz” (search for it in the search bar).

  2. Advanced Tab:
    Click on the Advanced Tab.

  3. Disable Secure Sign-in:
Uncheck the box for “Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete” under Secure sign-in.

  4. Save Changes:
Click OK to save your changes.

Considerations

  • Ensure you are signed in as an administrator to make these changes.
  • The “Local Security Policy Editor” method only works on Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions.

By following these steps, you can disable the CTRL+ALT+DEL feature on your Windows 11 kiosk, providing added security and preventing users from accessing the lock screen unnecessarily.
