Calculator keeps opening full screen and freezing my computer

Suddenly, the calculator is opening in full screen mode and I'm unable to do anything else on my PC.

That’s super frustrating. I’ve got a few things you can try to fix the calculator issue.

Check If You’re Running Windows 11

If you’re using Windows 11, there’s a known bug with the calculator app that might be causing this issue. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix. In the meantime, you can try the following:

Disable Full-Screen Mode

  1. Open the Calculator app normally (not in full-screen mode).
  2. Click the three horizontal dots in the upper-right corner of the app window.
  3. Uncheck the box next to Always on top.

This should prevent the calculator from opening in full-screen mode and freezing your PC.

Reset the Calculator App

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Click on Apps.
  3. Click on Optional features.
  4. Find Calculator in the list and click on it.
  5. Click the Uninstall button.
  6. Wait for the uninstall process to complete.
  7. Click the Install button to reinstall the Calculator app.

Clear the App’s Cache

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type %localappdata%\_packages\Microsoft.WindowsCalculator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache and press Enter.
  3. Delete all the files and folders in the LocalCache folder.

If none of these steps fix the issue, you might want to consider reinstalling Windows or seeking further assistance from Microsoft support.

Let me know if any of these steps work for you.
